For starters, because of his age, we should expect this process again in not too many years.

But in any case, I personally think Pope Benedict is going to be far more bland than everyone is expecting.

I keep seeing odd comments about how public discussion here and abroad, about homosexuality and child abuse and abortion, etc., is all going to be stifled because of this pope's staunchly conservative theologism.

My question is, HOW?

I think evening news anchors just need something to say and that's the best they could come up with.

Are they trying to tell us that everyone wishing to discuss those issues, everyone who feels they are important issues, suddenly will shush because the pope isn't going to give his blessing to the controversies? So, now, somehow, everyone who wanted to discuss it will just shut up and wait for another pope?

Benedict is simply following the same footsteps of John Paul. Did all these subjects NOT get discussed during John Paul's papacy?
